American Snow Day Superstitions!

Hey all! Even though it's turning into summer, I have snow on my mind...
I'm not sure if this is only an American thing to do, but we have superstitions to get snowdays! Some superstitions that supposedly will bring snowdays are:

-Dance with a penny
-Turn your pajamas inside out
-Put a spoon under your pillow

Is this only done in America?
Does anybody know any other snowday superstitions?

  1. In America its common for athletes to wear the same clothing items again if they win a big game to bring good luck , usually socks although I'm sure other items too

    1. Hi Abbott,
thanks for posting and bringing this up! I had forgotten about this one, even though I do it all the time. It's silly but once you start you just can't stop!

  2. In middle school, I used to do a variation on the snow dance; I think one of my teachers suggested it! It involved putting your arms straight up over your head and wiggling your fingers for a few moments as if to suggest snowfall, then suddenly bringing your hands down as if signifying a blizzard. I definitely did the snow dance and the pajamas ones at that age, and I probably would've done the spoon one, too, if my mother wouldn't have noticed!

    1. Hi Tracy,
That snow dance sounds like fun! I think snow-day traditions will continue on for many years because they don't have anything to do with luck or death or any of the "usual" superstitions, their only purpose is to bring a snow-day! I've never heard of this kind of dance but I definitely like this better than dancing with a penny! Thanks for commenting!

  3. One time, in middle school, I thought there was going to be a snow day. I really needed it, because I was getting bullied a lot and going to school wasn't exactly fun, and I was never the strongest kid, so you can imagine I didn't handle it well.

So, its snowing at ten o'clock, and I'm going to bed. My room isn't really heated, so I needed some pajamas, and, in a moment of blind faith, decided to wear the same pair as I was wearing the last time I had a snow day.

So anyways, I wake up the next day, to a wondrous coat of snow, and no cancellations. I had school. I didn't handle it well, I don't think I said a word all through breakfast. But here's where I really go full throttle idiot; I thought that if I didn't take my pajamas off, I could get school to just cancel itself. I'm not sure how my dad didn't stop me, but I think I had to walk to school that day, so I guess he didn't notice.

Anyways, as I'm sure no one reading this will be surprised to hear, school wasn't cancelled. And I went. In pajamas. You know that bad dream people have where they accidentally go to school in their pajamas? I had just done that.

Anyways I got made fun less than I expected, but I'm pretty sure people were laughing behind my back. I went home sick at about noon, but I did that a lot.

    So I guess fuck superstitions.

    1. Haha, I LOVED wearing my pajamas to school. I feel like superstitions for snow-days are just for fun. It probably also helps to keep kids occupied at night. Maybe next time put a spoon under your pillow and just maybe there'll be a snow-day in the morning!
